ERwin to EA
« on: February 29, 2008, 03:36:42 am »
I'm looking for insight on the best way to get data model information from CA ERwin v7 to EA.  I'm creating physical data models in ERwin and want to have them represented/available in EA as UML class diagrams.  These are data models that are "in progress" and haven't been implemented in the target DBMS yet.

Best Regards,

Mark

Mark,

I would like at some of the XMI export profiles that are available in ERwin.  These are certainly available in the version of ERwin that we are running (7.2.0.1644) - sorry can't remember whether they were added at 7.0 or 7.1.

We have tended to reverse engineer from a completed database...

How much of the model are you hoping to recreate in EA?  Tables and links or much lower than that?

Best regards,

Matt

Matt,

Thank you for your reply.

I've been able to reverse engineer from our implemented databases fairly easily.  However, I need to get my "in progress" data models into EA.  I want to go down to column level including data type, null option, and FK/PK/AK.

I've started working with the XMI export options in ERwin.  I haven't had much luck yet figuring out which will work best (or at all) with EA.

Best Regards,

Mark

Mark,

We are currently working on the release of TA 2.0 (due out today...) once that is complete, I will have a look at some of the XMI formats and see if I can get you any more details.

Best regards,

Matt
