No XSD type found for: "XType" Defau is: xs:string

I generate an XSD schema file from a given XSD model. However during the generation EA tells me
some warnings similar to:

Warning: No XSD type found for: "XXXType" Default is: xs:string

Much to my surprise EA does NOT recognize some existing type defintions. XXXType exists!!

When I open the classes attribute list and re-select the type (by opening the drop down menu without changing the type) and finally click on the button "Save" then the warning goes away in the next XSD file generation operation.
The resulting XSD file now contains the correct file type and is not any more replaced by string.

Why does EA not recognize the Type in the first step?

If I put them to work but then they get lost again,
 any way to solve this?

I doubt a 10 year old issue is still relevant today
