Format Text in Requirements / Use Case
« on: April 21, 2008, 10:41:45 am »
Hi guys,

I am evaluating a Requirements Management and Model Management tool. I found Enterprise Architect seems to be doing everything I need. However, I cannot see any feature allowing me to format the text I put in the requirements or even the ability to number steps when detailing a use-case. Can anyone please provide me some help on whether this can be done and how?

Regards.

What release of EA are you looking at?  In release 7.1, all element properties dialogs and many of the windows have a rich text formating toolbar. See

http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/EAUserGuide/index.html?rich_text_notes_toolbar.htm

This should enable you to format the text in requirements elements and use case elements, including numbering steps. You can also format text in the Notes window for an element, and in the Rules and Scenarios window for requirements.

I am using version 7.0. Do you know what the deal is to upgrade to 7.1?

If you are evaluating the trial version, download the current trial version (7.1) from the website.

If you have purchased a copy of EA, and you are a registered user, log on to the registered users page and download the 7.1 installer from there.

(That is a very simplistic explanation - if you require more detailed steps, no doubt one of the more experienced users can oblige. My own upgrade path is different to an external user's.)

You can also use the linked document feature. We use it since (certainly for requirements and use cases) it is much more comfortable and full in formatting.
Recursion definition:
If you don’t understand the definition read "Recursion definition".

Hi,

i prefer using linked documents for describing scenarios and extension scenarios. The facilities of EA to write textual use cases are not enough ,i think. Besides the textual scenarios we want to have additional use case properties which are not supported by EA as goal level, minimum and maximum guarantees etc. as recommended in the book of Alistair about "Writing effective use cases". In a linked document you can add all this information to a use case.

We have discussed that it would be even better if it would be possible to use another editor than the built in rich text editor for linked documents. Does anybody know if this is possible?
