attribute constraints on table vs. view
« on: May 08, 2008, 07:15:46 am »
I'm working on a data model in EA 7.0.817 Corporate Edition, so I have a package with many class elements of stereotype table.  If I look at the attribute properties sheet for a column for one of the tables, only the General tab is available.  I discovered through trial and error that if I change the class element stereotype from table to view, the attribute properties sheet for a column has three tabs, General, Detail, and Constraints.  In EA 6.5.799 (different project, but similar conditions), all three tabs appear.  Any idea where my missing tabs have gone?

I believe that in between those builds EA switched versions. In fact, the switch would likely be from 6.x to 7.0.

There were a lot of product changes involved in that switch, as with most major version upgrades.

Hi,
I have confirmed this, it was an intented change between version 6.5 and 7.0. There is now only one tab for table columns - the previous tabs were irrelevant for columns and were removed.  Any relevant fields in these are now in the General Tab.

Thanks for the confirmation.  A team on another project here at work is using EA 6.5, and they used attribute constraints for storing metadata.  As we've done all our requirements & design so far in 7.0, it's too late to turn around.  Guess I'll have to find another way.

Can you export their models to XMI and import them into 7.0? If so, perhaps you can find their work, wherever it has gone.

EA should not just discard the data, it just displays it somewhere else in the UI.

It would be a real shame to lose their work at this point.
