More Wizardly Behaviour I want to turn off
« on: July 16, 2008, 12:50:31 am »
I find when I re-open my data models the line labels have been reformatted and retruncated in a most ugly way.

It's as if EA has decided that line labels can only be so many pixels wide, and even though I painstakingly manually reformatted each and every one not to cut off, it's determined to force them all back to the same short length.  In my case I get labels that look like this:

TableX_ID
=ID

or TabY_ID=I
D

And it's not terribly professional.  Seems to me if I manually resize a label, it should stay this size forever and ever.

Is there a way to stop this? I'm using 8.01 (forced to)

8.01 of what?

[As far as EA is concerned, try Set Feature Visibility. You can find details by searching for Wrap in the EA help or documentation file. Reading the instructions involves work, but will often be faster than waiting for the rest of us to look things up.]

[edit]Note:

I've got it wrong. The above setting will probably only affect feature labels, not line labels. See Simon's post below. I remember seeing some references to this problem, which seem to have disappeared somewhere either side of EA 70 being released.[/edit]

You must have a different version than I do -- no help hits on wrap, or feature visibility.  I'm stuck with build 801 due to our corporate overlords, this must be for a new version.

Thanks for trying to help anyway :-)

Just for reference, build numbers do not determine version numbers. Check your About dialog, and you'll see what I mean.

I don't have the documentation for build 801 handy, and cannot remember when they added the text option.

In the meantime, try selecting the elements in question and auto-sizing them. You can use the Alt-Z keyboard shortcut. AFAIK there is no equivalent API function.

I have 6.5.801 -- The problem, Midnight, is that I resize them all (using grab handles in my case) and they keep reverting to the default size.  Can't figure out what's causing them to revert, and loose thier custom size...  So I get it all nice and pretty... and it turns itself back to ugly.  Now some might say I'm being "anal" or "picky" but I really like the ERD's EA is drawing, and I really like the way I can update the model from the database....

I have seen issues in the past where the connector labels wrapped badly, but don't know the exact effects or builds they effected.

Hi all,

This wrapping issue can be reproduced when you share an EAP file and each user uses different font size.

With EA 7.1,  you can set the default font for an EAP file, and this setting will solve this issue.

Hope this helps.
