Upgrade Trial version with Corporate License
« on: July 18, 2008, 11:33:15 pm »
Am I correct in assuming that if someone has a trial version of EA and then they purchase a Corporate Floating License, then after installing the License Server and licenses, the trial version will upgrade automtaically, either by requesting a license or the license server pushing the license out?

If not, are there any special procedures necessary.

Don't use floating license myself, but one of my clients is in the process of purchasing EA, hence the query
Models are great!
Correct models are even greater!

Full version and trial version are two separate installations. You can have at the same time installed Trial and License. When you install full version, just uninstall the trial (you can't use it anymore, due to expiry date).

However during the installation of Full version of EA there is a comment to replace all previously installed versions, if I remember that correctly.

In fact, I think the full version insists on replacing the trial version. [I've not checked this for a long time, but I don't remember seeing anything that would suggest it has changed.]

More specifically related to Phil's question... No, the trial version will not upgrade, nor will it be able to accept a license. The trial version provides you with the ability to emulate any of the 'lower' editions of EA, but does not 'know' how to act like a floating edition client.
No, you can't have it!

That is true Trial version don't have the option for Floating Edition, that is why I think there will be both Trial and Full version installed. I can't test it, cause my trial has expired long time ago and I deleted it after installing Floating Edition.

On the other hand the license keys (specifying edition of EA) are valid for the same installation file, so if Desktop or Corporate would replace Trial the same would be with Floating Edition.
