Database Engineering and SQL Server Collations
« on: July 17, 2008, 12:19:02 am »
Hi,

I have been using Enterprise Architect for a while now to design and diagramme my database.
I have recently hit a requirement for a different collation on one column on one table. Does anyone know how to record this within EA, so that I can generate sql scripts with the desired collation.

Any help much appreciated.

Jim

Hi Jim,

Good question. I just looked and I did not see anything that might do it. My guess would be something like a tagged value on the column, but I am not sure what that would be. [There does not seem to be an empty 'placeholder' tag set up, but that does not necessarily mean anything.]

Here's an experiment you can try. Set up a trivial schema in SQL Server, where you have just such a column. Now attach to that schema and import the structure into EA. See if anything shows up on the column. Remember to check the tagged value window. [Hint: You'll probably need to highlight the field on the element, not in the column properties dialog, for the tagged values to show up properly.]

Please let us know if you find anything. This is worth following up.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay in answering but I've been away.

I have tried what you suggested and can find no mention of collation anywhere. I am using 7.0.816 build 816
It seems strange I would have thought that there was some way of adding this sort of thing to a column.

Any one got any other ideas?

thanks

Jim

I suspect - without proof, and I'd be delighted to hear I'm wrong - that this is not (yet) available.

Perhaps you'd make the feature request to Sparx, since it should be easy to add.

You'll find the appropriate request form by clicking the Feature Request link below the Support link near the bottom of any forum page.

If you hear back from Sparx please post back to this thread to keep the rest of us in the loop.

Meanwhile we'll hope somebody has this solved.
