EA and BPMN extended notation set
« on: October 04, 2008, 01:49:45 am »
On the BPMN web page  http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/products/mdg_bpmn.html there are elements that appear to be from the BPMN extended notation set like start and intermediate events, event based gateways etc. They don't appear to be included in EA. Are they available for Enterprise Architect (7.1) and if so how?

Any help appreciated.

PS (I'm not familar with either)

You should see, at least, an intermediate event in the BPMN Core Pallete.  What isn't obvious is how to set the trigger.  There you will need to open up the Tagged Values window and set the Trigger property.  Same holds true for things like Task Type.

I have requested in the past that EA improve the BPMN modeling for this and also to include things like interchange (i.e. XPDL), but they don't seem to be focusing on this part of the tool. For that disappointing reason, I have switched to BizAgi for BPMN who offer a free modeler that is really nice.  I now insert exported diagrams (as image) into my EA models.  Not ideal, but works.

In the meantime, dock the tagged values window if you have not already done so. EA will remember the setting and open it when you access the model in future.
No, you can't have it!

In the toolbox on the left of your screen click the more link and choose the BPMN option

Drag the start element into the window highlight it
Then either CTRL+SHIFT+T or select Element -> Add Tagged Value... from toolbar. This automatically docks Tagged values for me in lower left of screen for me (Version 7.1 build 832) YMMV.
Then click on the trigger option for the start element in the dock and select the required option (message).
