Comfortable Printing in EA
« on: November 22, 2008, 08:08:11 am »
Hi, I want to use EA to print my UML diagrams nicely on A4 Sheets....

I wonder if there is a possibility to display the page extends as lines
in the diagram , so that i can prearrange the elements in a way  so that corresponding elements fit on one page.

If this is not possible, which clever printing methods and software do you apply to print your diagrams?

Regards

Open a diagram, then open the Diagram Properties dialog (you can use the F5 shortcut). Click the Diagram tab, and then ensure that the Show Page Border option is checked. EA will remember this setting in future.

You can set the paper size in several ways. For an individual diagram use the same tab of the properties dialog. Click the Advanced button in the Page Setup portion of the dialog, then the Page Setup button on the next dialog.

You can also set the paper size in the Tools | Options | Diagram dialog. Click the Page Setup button and you will invoke the same dialog as the steps above. I am not sure - there was a bug in this area last time I checked (a long time ago) - but this second method may be remembered by EA, while the first might apply only to that diagram.

Note that EA can be very sensitive to both your Windows default printer, and the Windows paper size for whichever printer is currently selected. It is usually best to check each time you print, until you are sure EA is remembering the settings you want.

Thx,

strange - I had this option (show Borders) turned on, but it didn't display
horizontal borderlines. After switching to landscape format it showed both
borders.

Thx.

I have seen something like what you describe, but not for some time. I do remember that it went away. Now I can turn the setting on and off and things behave as expected.

It might - this is only a guess - have some (possibly obscure) relationship to monitor settings. Thinking back, I might not have seen this since I last replaced either my workstation or my printers (I did all the printers at the same time). Perhaps once I got the print configuration set up the problem solved itself.

As for the current situation, the main thing is that you are up and running, and are getting the results you need to set up your diagrams.
