Windows 7 ?
« on: January 12, 2009, 07:41:24 am »
Anyone get a successful EA install on Windows 7 yet?

I tried last night... The install failed on an XML error. Don't remember what exactly...

BTW, Windows 7 install through VMWare Fusion went perfectly.

Hi Chris,

The XML error has been seen before on newer Windows versions. There is a piece of software missing, that used to be found on (pretty much) all Windows installations, but is not part of the bare bones 'kit' these days.

Do a forum search for this - you might have to try several keyword combinations - and you will find a few threads that report the solution. Once you find one, see if you can download the missing package - the directions will be in the forum thread. If Windows 7 will let you install that package you should be OK. Otherwise you should report the issue to both Sparx and MS, as this could be a harbinger of compatibility issues to come.

Please post back to let us know how it goes, either way.

David

Thanks Midnight. I've been a lurker here for years and have benefited from your help several times.

I'll post back and let the forum know the results.

Hmm.

So far as I can tell, in spite of the error that EA's install reported, EA seems to have installed successfully. After putting it through an hour of use this morning, EA is performing well.

Initially, I thought the install failed. Apparently the install completed after throwing the XML parse message.

If there is a problem with my install, I'm sure that it will rear itself again. And then, I'll have a better explanation.

Hi Secretbeauty, EA is a great tool, welcome. I suggest that you start a new thread for your question. You'll probably get your answer much faster...

I've been trying out the 7.5 beta on Win7 and other then the install error as noted above (which didn't seem to impact the install) I've had no issues so far.
