7.5 Beta 2 and SysML support
« on: February 26, 2009, 09:25:29 am »
What does this mean when it talks about Rel 7.5 Beta 2 system Engineering Edition-
- For systems software, real-time, embedded, scientific and similar domains;
- Targets behavioral code generation for additional code and hardware description languages;
- Advanced SysML support
- Bundled MDG Tools for developers and architects

Whats "ADVANCED SysML Support"?? Sparx need to elaborate on this, it doesn't mean much after what their Rel 7.1 offers in SysML, without much documented anywhere!

The original MDG Technology for SysML was for SysML 1.0, which is now outdated. It had its own Help file, but this is no longer relevant.

Enterprise Architect 7.5 - Systems Engineering and Ultimate editions - supports SysML 1.1. We are in the process of providing documentation and guidance by way of example models and model templates, and Help topics of which the Parametric Diagrams topics are an indication (assuming that you are able to access the Beta 2 release, which is available to Registered Users). The models, templates and further Help are still under development.

We ask for, and appreciate, your patience while we continue to work on this area.
Best Regards, Roy

Hi Roy, thanks for your response. Kindly note that your example models and templates are not enough to guide us in using EA with SysML add-on. It would be much appreciated if Sparx were to coem out with a document on ho9w to do what and what exactly works in EA in terms of SysML 1.1, Parametric Diagrams is just one peice of it....we need such info on almost all the diagrams that SysML caters for in Systems Engnieering domain - specifically for "Systems" design and not just limited to "Software" Systems Design alone.

So true.

The same sort of gaps (i.e. needs that are not covered by the current documentation) are evident in the BPMN add-in. Both have been noted by users in past.

I'd normally suggest a common document for both, explaining things in terms of how EA implements the profiles, and how a user would go about doing things. This would work since EA implements the two profiles with a common paradigm.

Unfortunately EA 7.5 has the two profiles placed in different editions (excepting the Ultimate edition which has everything). Thus you'd still need two documents. But that's life...

I am currently evaluating the EA v7.5 Beta 2 and SysML 1.1

I have a model developed in EA 7.1 SysML 1.0 and it opens perfectly fine.

In the SysML MDG for EA 7.1 there is an option setting to show various blcok compartments (eg parts) ... this is global for all blocks rather than per block as I would prefer ...

Where is the equivalent option in EA v7.5 SysML 1.1? I tried all the usual haunts, "Feature Visibility" etc ... but no luck

Cheers
Models are great!
Correct models are even greater!
