Create Object From Attribute
« on: March 12, 2009, 09:36:23 am »
I'm trying to do this following the instructions here: http://www.sparxsystems.com/uml_tool_guide/what_is_uml_modeling/create_object_from_attribute.html

When I drop the attribute onto the diagram though, nothing happens.  The project browser seems to refresh momentarily, but nothing appears on my diagram.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks.

This behavior appears to be specifically when dropping the Attribute onto an Activity diagram.  Dropping the attribute onto other diagram types has no effect.  Can you confirm what type of diagram you have open?

A Logical (Class) Diagram.

Weird... it just worked on a User Interface Diagram.  It wont work on a Use Case Diagram either (that's all I've tried so far).

Is this a bug?

This is actualy a UML feature for Activity diagrams only (as stated in the helpfile).  This facility will be superseded in 7.5 with the new feature to set a Connector to link specifically to an Attribute or Operation.

Well done Sparx!

It works in Beta 3 (build 842); I did not test this with earlier beta builds.

The process could be streamlined (a lot), and placement of the connector lines is a bit fragile (particularly if you move the elements), but the main thing is that it works.

There is a visual indicator too! I am not sure - it might just be my eyes - but the indicator might be a pixel too close to the border of an element when it is on the right side. I'll check tomorrow (so I don't think I am seeing the same thing). If anyone notices this same issue then send a bug report to Sparx (before I do) and let us all know.

No, you can't have it!
