Re-use of a business process in another project
« on: March 14, 2009, 02:55:19 am »
Using BPM I would like to import a business process from a project in other projects. So when I update the original business process I would like the other projects to be updated as well. Is it possible and if yes what is the way to do so?

No, at least EA will not do this for you automatically.

There are a couple of ways you might work around this, and you may find one suitable for your situation.

Look into controlled packages in the EA help. This is an old feature, and doesn't get much 'play' these days. It works though, and just might be what you need. One thing you need to check is whether it will work with profiles. BPMN (if that's how you are doing "BPM" in your projects) is a profile, so check this out. You also need to ensure that any reference data that your controlled packages has been preloaded into each project.

You could also write an automation client to handle this. Note that this could get complex depending on how flexible you want this process to be. It is all up to you.

PS: This might be worth a feature request to Sparx - use the link near the bottom of any forum page. I believe it has been requested before, though perhaps not too often. Sparx needs some way to gauge how important a 'big' feature is to the user community. If we don't tell them then how will they know?
No, you can't have it!
