Misrepresentation.....  should be sued
« on: March 26, 2009, 06:20:19 am »
Hi'ya dudes

Just had oppertunity to illustrate the new interface to some kids... nice employer hugs...  [smiley=rolleyes.gif] This was to give you the setting and purpose

Aim was to show easy it is to go from Visual Studio 2010 IDE to Sparx kit (EA).... that bit goes wonderfully.   [smiley=rolleyes.gif] visual styles, the feature thats gives the user a layout and colouring that resembles a selection of common ( popular ) application interfaces....

It's rather unsettling to try the Word to Sparx kit....   :exclamation ok, Word 2007

where's the ribbon? [smiley=rolleyes.gif] [smiley=rolleyes.gif]

We can live with it... but be kinda amaz'ing.... being able to minimise  [smiley=rolleyes.gif] make the ribbon act like a drop down, when you click the menu bar item ( file, Edit... eyc ), pays in veiwable diagram surface... we were using a netbook ( screens 1280*600).... the opersite to Slate \Tablet  :exclamation where it's used in portrait orientation ( where the narrowness of the screen makes the tool Box and Project explorer down the sides the issue)..

Can you do stuff like that by automation?

Cheers

I think spell check requires the use of the English language, doesn't it?

 :o :-? ::)

Sorry Kevin - we're not laughing at you - we're laughing with you - and we welcome your participation in this forum, in which my language (and spelling) is often the subject of humour.

Hey... Thelonius, so ya should be.... two spelling mistakes !!! corrected, thats not bad you know for a dyslexic

It's not english... it''s British venecular at worst...

We, concluded that sparx should have stopped at office 2003... the appearance of the 'fluent' ribbon is the dominant characteristic.... not the black and silver theme colours.

Several of the kids asked if the add-in \ app extensisbility offered by EA, could be used to retro fit a more ribbon'ish interface.  I said I thought it most unlikely... at which point several of the girls thought we should sue EA for promising something that it couldn't deliver.

We spent the rest of the afternoon organising the menu structure ( taken from the help documentation ) into a ribbon-like mock using Visual Studio 2kX.

I will be handing out a copy of this thread next week...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

I just thought some might like to know....

and get confirmation that what I said was rite ( correct )... that the addon \ automation \ extensibility interface in EA does not stretch that far into the application..... ;D perhaps I should make a feature request :-/

I like this forum... I like EA... I like the client ( employer ) who busses in local school kids each week to give them some workplace experience and play with cool kit and software.

Ah, the penny's dropped and I finally understand this thread!

I can confirm that "View > Visual Style > Select Visual Style" will not make a ribbon appear for any of the choices. Sorry if that's not what you expected. I have no idea if ribbons are planned for any future releases, but my personal preference would be to keep the extra screen real estate for modelling.

Note that you'll have to add the trailing parentheses by hand. The one in the post is not part of the link.
No, you can't have it!

As far as wanting more screen real estate, try selecting Window | Full Screen.

You can still add elements with:
  • Ctrl+Right Click
  • Space
  • Right click and select New Element or Connector.
  • Use the quick-linker.
  • Added tip for the quick linker, add a pre-existing element to a diagram by holding shift while you use it.  It then allows you to select an element of that type from the model.
Most of what you can do with diagrams, can be done without ever using any docked windows or toolbars.

Ribbons...  Well, there is an overall dislike of them here, and we have had a number of clients specifically request that they are not added.  We don't currently have any plans for them, but if they are a must have for you, send in a request.  If there was an overwhelming demand for them, I'm sure it would be investigated further.

thanks KP... i thought I was right, not that a gang of disgruntled parents jamming the car park as a result of filling their heads with nonsense was likely.

Feature request will be in by weekend... little disappointed that there's a general dislike of this interface ( reminds me of the folks who didn't want a GUI... ) at Sparx.  Oh, don't forget the minimise to pop-up, with that you have a standard lokking menu strip with 'file edit tools et al' items, the ribbon appears when you move the pointer ( hover the stylus ) over menu item.

Do want to add that we don't usually do our modeling work on netbooks... but 'love to bits' my tablet ( tryping is a struggle for me ), and thus notice applications which do not account for screen orientation.  Thats my pet miff at mo'

cheers dude's
