Copy data model diagram does not preserve associat
« on: June 18, 2009, 02:00:20 pm »
Gee the subject lines are a bit short aren't they?

Copy data model diagram does not preserve associations line styles.

I copied a (physical) data model diagram where all the line styles "Auto Routing".

All line styles changed to "Custom"

Has anyone else had this problem?
Or know of a work around?
Is is this a bug?

Hi Simon,

Whether it is a bug or just a quirk depends on how you look at it.

There might be a workaround though. Open the Tools | Options | Links dialog and check the default routing in the drop-down near the upper right corner. If this is set to Custom then try changing it and see if that helps. If not then I think you are stuck.

You might want to report this to Sparx regardless. Use the Report a Bug link near the bottom of any forum page. If you are a registered user then click the appropriate link above the bug report form to go to the registered version and fill out that form instead. The registered version allows you to attach a sample file (try the project you are testing on).

HTH, David

BTW: When this version of YABB (the forum software) was new I mentioned to Sparx that maximum length settings for both posting bodies and topics were too short. My justification was that both were often being cut off. I received a response quite quickly in both cases. Sparx increased the body length substantially. They also decided that the topic length would stay as it is. Make of that what you will...
No, you can't have it!

Thankyou, this was useful.

The default link setting was custom.
I changed it to Routed and copied the diagram.

Quirk it may be, but intuitive its not, copy to me means copy "as is", not "copy and change" or "copy and reset to defaults".

BTW: well 54 characters for a subject isn't much, and given I hit the limit twice recently when trying to provide a meaningful subject...
My other suggestion was that Sparx enable the upload of attachments (or at least images).
They weren't impressed.
Perhaps the forums aren't that important ...

I once tried relaxing the limit, until someone put in a very long subject line which completely fouled up the formatting of his message and the thread he was replying to. YABB doesn't word-wrap subject lines, unfortunately.

YABB again. It doesn't have the functionality to upload pictures, only to reference them, so there's not much we can do. (But please don't take this as a promise to host pictures if YABB ever develops the functionality - there are plenty of free picture hosting sites out there).

As far as I can see (and in common with most BBs)  the Administartor can enable this
