Displaying Notes in Activity diagrams, not working
« on: July 26, 2009, 01:15:05 am »
On a class diagram sheet, if I right click on the sheet background and go to Properties->Elements->Show Compartments and check Notes, all of my notes that I enter in the class diagram will show up in the class diagram underneath the Operations.  Good.

However I can't seem to make that work in Activity diagrams.  I right click on that diagram sheet background and select Properties->Elements->Show Compartments->Notes just as above, but my Notes (entered into things like Activity or Send or Receive symbols) don't show up.

How do I make Notes show up in activity diagrams?

Forgot to mention... currently using EA 7.1 build 831.  If this is a problem that's fixed in 7.5 let me know and I'll upgrade... I usually avoid upgrading software in the middle of a project unless there is a specific reason to do so.

Hi Eric,

I don't see anything obvious in the release notes on the EA History page.

You could always try the evaluation version of EA 7.5. I suggest you install it on a non-development machine though. The evaluation and production version do not get along on the same machine, so you'd have to remove and then reinstall EA if you do this on your development system.

Good evening, David.

I don't mind buying the latest version, in fact I just renewed my support subscription so I think I get it for free if I recall correctly (will have to check).  I generally try not to upgrade software versions in the middle of a project, though, unless there is a specific problem that I know is fixed in the latest version.  I have run into entirely too many instances (not with EA, though) where upgrading to the latest version of something broke various aspects of what I was working on and caused more trouble than it was worth.

I'll see if Sparx chimes in here and if not, maybe I'll do what you suggest, download the latest version and try it on another machine.

Hi again Eric,

I think you are on the right track, both in your approach and your reluctance to do a mid-project version switch without compelling cause.

To be more specific, I was suggesting you try the evaluation version to see if 7.5 had resolved the problem, since the release notes had nothing to say on the matter. It might have been handled but not made the release notes for some reason.

Your assumption is correct. If you have an active subscription then you can upgrade without cost. But that brings you back to the question of whether the upgrade will solve your current problem (which is why you started this tread in the first place). If 7.5 does not provide the feature you need, then you can always wait until after your current project to upgrade.

I also agree with you about watching the thread. You can always set a notification to see if the Sparxians, or the broader user community, provides a definitive answer to your question. Even if the answer is negative, perhaps someone has a workaround that would help in your situation.

Remember that Sparx is in the Land of AUS. Their weekend had begun before you started this thread but will soon be over.
