Can EA load a very large model progressively?
« on: August 13, 2009, 02:06:26 pm »
I have a very large model which loads a long time before i can start working on it.

Is there a function such that when i load a model, it loads the package structures only until i expand a particular package, it starts loading its details?

My model loads me several minutes before I can start working on it which is not very reasonable.

Have a look at this:

http://www.sparxsystems.com/uml_tool_guide/uml_model_management/connecttosqlserver.html

Towards the end, the connection dialog has the Lazy Load option. You can select this for every type of DBMS repository supported by EA, so look around this section of the Help for the topic on the DBMS you are using. (I am reliably informed that a .EAP file shouldn't take ages to load, but if you are using an EAP file, transfer to a DBMS repository for better loading and performance. The instructions are all in this area of the Help.)
Best Regards, Roy

Hi Roy,

Please look at the grammar of the Lazy Load description on the (on-line) help page you reference above.

You might want to revisit the wording where it reads "...display the visibly portion..." (highlight added).

Yes indeed - spotted that yesterday and will correct when I get back to my desk.

Good detection of deliberate mistake (cough!) - glad to see people are reading carefully.  Hmm hmm hmmm, de de de... (have they gone yet?)
