Replacing a word in the entire project
« on: August 13, 2009, 07:51:36 pm »
Hi everybody,

is there a way to replace a word in an entire project (models, diagrams, notes, comments, etc) ?

Best regards.

I think the only way is to export the whole model to XMI, do a search and replace, and import again.
Just be very carefull not to break anything.

As Geert has said, this method can be problematic.

Whenever I've had to do this, I've connected to the Repository with MS Access and used the Access Search and Replace functionality on a column by column basis.  Usually it's only one or two columns per table and usually only a couple of tables affected.

Since in this latter approach, you've clearly separated the content from the structure (which for the XMI is NOT the case - since they're all characters to the text editor) it's safer, if a bit more tedious.
