Controlling Element Width
« on: August 20, 2009, 03:59:58 pm »
I note that when choosing to display the notes compartment on elements, and then adding, say, a long text string (example: a URL) in the notes section - the width of the the element appears to be determined by the length of the text in the notes section.

Is it possible that we can have the ability to specify the exact maximum width of elements in a future version of EA?

Or is there a different / better way to control the width of elements that I don't know about? :)

Hi Thelonius,

Submit a formal request, referencing this topic so Sparx can view the discussion.

I presume the Set Feature Visibility [Ctrl+Shift+Y]|When Resizing Elements (X)Truncate Features didn't help.

I was about to suggest a similar thing but for the opposite reason.  If you have ONLY the Notes compartment and you DON'T have rectangular format, the notes are displayed as wide as the single longest word - which can make the display very LONG and very THIN.

My view is EA needs (in addition to the existing mechanisms) the ability to specify a minimum and maximum width for the compartments (regardless of whether rectangular format is engaged).  The other mechanisms would take effect within these boundaries.

...and that notes will respect preferred width settings in shape scripts.
No, you can't have it!
