Debugging a JEE application with EA
« on: December 04, 2009, 11:00:02 am »
Hi,

In order to generate Sequence Diagrams automatically from the execution, is it possible to debug a deployed application on an application server, for example an EAR containing an EJB jar module deployed on Glassfish?

If it is possible, could someone point me on material that explains the procedure?

thank you

Ludovic

Hi Ludovic,

You can attach EA to Web Server instances, although it does require a few steps to setup correctly. Please consult the documentation http://www.sparxsystems.com/uml_tool_guide/visual_execution_analyzer/debugging_java_web_servers.html for an overview of this area.

Please note that we've tested this on Apache Tomcat and JBoss, but not on Glassfish as far as I know. As long as you're able to set the vm options and classpath as per the help documentation it should all be possible though.
Best Regards,

Michael
