How do I print a Requirements Hierarchy
« on: January 18, 2010, 09:30:06 pm »
Hi all,

I have a functional requirements document with circa 30 elements which all have a hierarchy (aggregation) so REQ001 is composed of REQ017 & REQ021 etc. Selecting the top requirement element and viewing the Hierarchy tab I can see a detailed view of how everything is made up, which is great!

Now I want to show this sort of hierarchy on the Requirements RTF export. At the moment the requirements are just printed in the order in which they were created. Is it possible to get the export to generate an RTF with something like a bullet'd list?

Anyone got any ideas on how to do this?

Regards.

There is something in templates that prints out relationships between objects (default requirements template for example). This can be somewhat helpful. The problem is, that I don't know how to limit the connections to only dependent objects. But I'm in the same both. What I do then is to include picture above the text so the reader can always refer to it to see the hierarchy and other types of connections.

Maybe even better to export HTML and everybody can click on hierarchical pictures to get to the bottom.

I've got round this by turning on "Element Numbering" and going through all of the elements linking them together. This way when I print out the requirements I get 1. at the top followed by 1.1, 1.2 etc.

Would be nice if this was automatic based on Aggregation links, but it'll do for now ... hopefully the requirements wont change that much  :)

p.s. I can just see Geoff Sparks saying that three times over every night before he goes to bed.  ;D

p.p.s. Or, to paraphrase someone else "Consistent requirements do not exist" (hehehe)
