UML Metamodel as a project?
« on: February 13, 2010, 12:41:49 am »
Hi,

Is there a way to easily display and navigate through Class diagrams in EA the UML metamodel?

For instance showing the following classes and their associations: Classifier, Element, NameElement, PackageableElement, Relationship, DirectedRelationship, etc.

As this is built in EA, is there an easy way to render it?Or is there any EAP file that can be downloaded, giving visibility over the complete UML metamodel?

thanks

Guillaume

Guillaume,

I would be interested too.
I did try to get such a model a while ago, and the only solution I found was to import the xmi provided by OMG in StarUML, export that as xmi again and then import it  into EA.

Maybe you could provide your converted model via the Community site?

I was actually hoping someone had a better model since mine doesn't have any descriptions.
But yes no problem, I'll upload it to the community site.
Should be published by Monday then.

Hi Geert,

thanks for the info - do you remember where you found the OMG XMI?
If you still have it, do you mind giving the url?

Cheers,
Guillaume

Still it would be nice if EA would have an EAP file.

Hi Geert,

Thanks for posting the XMI - I managed importing the file you published in the Community site into a new EAP.

The only thing that remains doing is to create class diagrams to render the metamodel structure.

thanks!

You're welcome.
I had it laying around, so it really wasn't any trouble.
If you would happen to find a fully documented UML metamodel please let us know. It's a pain to always have to revert to the superstructure pdf to read the documentation.

The only major issue I found from the OMG XMI is that it's missing multiplicities - am not sure why it's not included.

I just checked and indeed, for some reason all "upper" is set to *.
Not really informative.
