One diagram - different views
« on: March 05, 2010, 11:46:47 pm »
Hi,
i have an use case diagram with actors and use case's. Now i want to add to it through realization Requirements from the Requirements and Screen from the User Interface Model. I want to have 3 diagrams:
 1. pure UC diagram
 2. UC diagram with req's attached to  use cases
 3. UC diagram with screen attach to use cases.
Is there a way to do it and how do it best? I found an option to copy diagram and two options shallow and deep duplicate. Or is there a way to put everthing on one diagram and change views that disable for example the visibility of reqs and screens?

Robert,

They've added something like this in version 8, but I haven't tried it out myself yet.

Other then having three copies of the diagram, i don't see how you can achieve that in 7.5.

Hi,

What we have done is to use images. If you have background a lot of similar content in all diagram you create that in one diagram. Save that as an imge and import it into the images... (use EMF and it will scale fine.)

The you create three differerent diagrams with for instance a boundary where you set your image as alternate image.

After that you can add the spcific information for each diagram.

This works well but not perfect at least if you do this in more than one level. Unselect "GDI Plus Metafiles" as a temporary workaround until the bug I reported is fixed. If you change in the "background" diagram you only update that diagram and update the original image and all three diagrams are updated correctly (if you close them and open...)
