Sharing custom searches
« on: March 29, 2010, 08:32:14 pm »
Hi

I've created some custom searches and I want to share them with the development team... how can I do it?
The problem is that I want to integrate them in the model views but they are only restricted to my workstation.

Many thanks

I just store the xml files of my searches on a shared drive and ask everyone to import them.

Pretty annoying, that we can't store them in the model somewhere.

Hi Geert

could you tell me how to do it?

Btw, I've noticed that in the SysML MDG tech they have defined a technology specyfic search (SysML allocations)... it would be nice to understand how they have done it because I couldn't find it in the help...

Find In Model (Ctrl-F)/Manage Searches

There you have an export/import button that creates/imports the searches as xml files.

About the mdg, I remember that someone posted some comments about how to do that in an MDG tech.

You should be able to find it using the search button on the top left.

You could try the following thread to start with

http://www.sparxsystems.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1259962114

and then look up MTS/MDG in the help

Thank you very much ...
unfortunately I was not able to perform the procedure successfully  (working with ea 7.5 build 750, systems engineering ed.).
  • I've exported the seraches in a searches.xml file
  • I've exported the views in a views.xml file
  • I've created the mts file and added the 2 lines as described in the MTS file help
  • I've generated the technology with my profiles
  • if I open the technology.xml file with an xml editor, I see everything (profiles, views, searches)
  • if I import the technology in a new model, I see the profiles but neither the views nor the searches

Do you have any suggestion?
thank you.

When you say "import", you presumably mean either using the "Tools > Import Technology" command or the equivalent command in the Resources window? Don't do that. Delete the technology from the Resources tree then go "Settings > MDG Technologies", click Advanced, add the path to your technology, then restart EA.

Thank you, it works now...
Only one question: by importing the profiles of the technology with the "old" method, I had the profiles listed in the resources tab, so that I could also look at the single stereotype help (right click, view stereotype information). If I enable the technology with the "new" method, the profiles are not listed anymore in the resources.

Is there a way to see them in the resources? Can I import the technology with the old method while the new method is active, so that I see anyway the profiles in the resouces?

Thank you for your help
