Note Hyperlinks - how do I get them to work ?
« on: May 20, 2010, 12:53:22 am »
I have added some hyperlinks to Notes in elements,  and they appear as you would expect, but when clicked either in EA or in HTML output they just do nothing.  Have I missed something and I need to switch an option on somewhere ?  Or could this be a bug  ?    Anyone got these new hyperlinks to work ?
thanks

If you mean a hyperlink in the notes for an element then you can do Ctrl+lmb to follow the link in the properties dialog or the notes dockable window.
Using V12

Similar to this, I am trying to create Hyperlinks as part of detailed information within an element - the purpose is to export to HTML and be linkable on the web model.

I have tried Notes as well as putting Hyperlinks in Linked Documents. The hyperlinks are rendered in the HTML report with an odd Javascript reference that does not work. Has anyone been able to get this to work? (e.g. modifying the Web Styles template).

Thanks
Craig

ps. Are there any good examples of Web templates available?

Yes, that certainly works,  but in the Notes compartment of an element it doesn't,  nor does it if you create a Note on a diagram and display the contents of an element's notes through the "Link to element feature.." option.   In the latter case the link is displayed as a link but is not clickable either with the control key or not.    Similarly in the html output the link promises clickability but it doesn't work on diagrams.

Hyperlinks in notes are not intended to be usable when the notes are displayed on a diagram.

Thanks for explaining the design decision Simon,  but if that is the case then I don't think they should be displayed as links because then they suggest/promise something that isn't available - very irritating to end-users.

That means the following 2 situations should be sorted out
1) adding a note to a diagram and having its content taken from another element via the "link this note to an element feature.." option, and that element has hyperlinks in its notes.  These hyperlinks should not be displayed.
2) remove the same links in the html output, although if 1) was sorted out this would likely happen by default anyway.

Alternatively you could reverse the design decisionand make them clickable.

I've raised a bug report for this.
