Unicode in EA
« on: May 20, 2009, 06:59:50 pm »
Hi all,

I'm using EA version 7.0.813
I meet a problem when I write note or naming by unicode characters: I input string "M[ch7909]c [ch273][ch7891]ng" (in Vietnamese) for a Object, at first EA display OK, but after (view Properties of the Object) the string becomes "M?c d?ng"
I have chosen font Arial for unicode font

Please help me to solve this problem !

Thanks a lot !

Perhaps this will help.

Do you have Jet 4.0 set in the main Tools | Options dialog? If not, check that box, then exit and restart EA (the change does not take effect until your next EA session).

[edit]For anyone reading this, I forgot one piece of the puzzle. Please see Aaron's post below.[/edit]

Jet 4.0 is required for use of Unicode character sets, but unfortunately enabling the "Use Jet 4.0" option alone does not convert the eap repository to a Jet 4.0 database.  You will need to download a copy of a Jet 4.0 base model from our website:
http://www.sparxsystems.com/bin/EABase_JET4.zip

If you extract this file into you installation directory and replace the existing EABase.eap, all new eap files created by EA will automatically use Jet 4.0.

To convert your existing repository to Jet 4.0, you could create a copy of the Jet 4.0 EABase file and perform an .EAP to .EAP Data Transfer from your existing model to the new Jet 4.0 model.

Or if you have Microsoft Access installed, you could use it to convert your .eap file to "Access 2000" format.

And all of this begs the question, why the hell is full Unicode support still not the default? Ye flippin' gods, it's 2009; I've been complaining about this to Sparx for years since, what, EA version 6.1 and even earlier. What an absurd set of steps to foist upon the users.

Hey Sparx, the year 1963 called and wants its character encoding scheme back.
