Change Element Types in Bulk
« on: June 16, 2010, 03:45:53 am »
I'm doing a lot of imports lately, and it would be really nice if I could select multiple elements and change their types at once.  The MDG for Visio, for example, is not very ganular in it's ability to parse in the elements; when selecting the import as deployment, hundreds of elements came in as nodes with server stereotypes.  some are correct, others are not.
Best regards,
cj

cj,

You can do some (sort of) bulk changes using the element list (although the type is not one of them)
The other options are to write a little script/program using the API, or even by editing the database directly.

Echoing Geert:

I have on a few occasions done copy-and-paste editing of a bunch of elements directly from the database tool; this can come in very handy when bulk changes are necessary. For .EAP files this can be done from Access by linking the tables in the .EAP file to a database created in Access. One word of caution - if you use this method, make sure your changes don't result in unintelligible or inconsistent results!
