backwards compatibility between 8 and 7

We are currently using version 7.5 and we have a project saved in a database.

Will version 8 be able to open the project and change it without causing the 7.5 clients to choke?

On a side note if I buy version 8 is version 7 available as well?

I've been using 8.0 for about 6 months now while all other users are still on 7.5. No problems so far.
You can still download any of the previous versions if you have bought a license.
