Layers in Enterprise Architect
« on: September 20, 2010, 04:23:54 pm »
Hi,

Is there any possibility that I can use layers in Enterprise Architect? So i mean that I can let see the difference between a old and a new model of the same process.

So you can see beter the differences?

Layering behaviour can be achieved through the Diagram Filters facility.

Have a look at http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/navigate_search_and_trace/diagram_filters_window.html for more details

Yes,

IIRC Diagram filters were introduced in v 8.0.

guessing ya wont be able to do that with filtering in 7.1....  back to printing the 'As waz" on a bit of papper and 'As will" on the clingfilm trick.

Why not use Powerpoint to do some nice quietening of the line and font colouring.  A little bit of choreography and phased introductions can be rapidly absorbed by solution stakeholders.  Alternatives more fruitfully exprienced.

IBM RATIONAL provides styling hints (default and in this digram... for now anyhows).  a few set pencil to thingies.... light blue what was, deep green what will be....

But then EA doesn't support UML Action Language either.... so it's obversely silly to think of the automation interface as an activity diagram instance object about to execute.

never attempt to try and untangle the cling artworks...

Kevin,
your British is too British for me... What is cling artwork. I found something about cling film and know what that is. But it does not make sense to me.

I believe that Kevin was talking about transferring a diagram onto a sheet of cling film - a thin, transparent sheet of plastic film. It is well named, because cling film clings; if you accidentally allow two pieces of cling film containing diagrams or artwork to embrace, you can forget about pulling them apart neatly without damage. They crinkle together passionately, and any floating edges make convoluted though very fast tracks for the centre of the mess. They rapidly become homogenous balls for kittens to pat around.

Far easier to run a sheet of overhead projector transparency through your printer. But we are looking back into the dawn of time there.

You may get better results with Australia's equivalent, Glad Wrap, which in my experience doesn't cling to anything...
