partitions in activity diagrams
« on: September 28, 2010, 09:22:37 pm »
hello everyone,

In an Activity or Interaction Overview Diagram, we can define partitions which helps organize the model according to responsabilties;
What if the model is complex such that the activities can't be grouped into partition; is there an other way to define these partitions; i mean using properties of an activity;
if there isn't any; does someone found a workaround;

Thank you for your  help;

There are a number of ways to model this, you could add a relation from the actor (which is what I'm guessing you are using as the classifier of your partitions) to the Activity, you could use a tagged value on the Activity which links to the Actor,...

studmad,

Nodes should never be diagrams. In fact diagrams hardly exist in UML, and they certainly shouldn't carry semantic information.

Sorry Geert; I don't get it; You mean we can do it in Interaction Overview Diagrams.
have I misunderstood something concerning this type of diagrams

I don't care about the type of diagram you are using, all I'm saying is that a node should never be a diagram.
You cannot relate elements to diagrams because the concept of "diagram" doesn't really exist in UML.
