Upsize to access 2007
« on: May 27, 2011, 01:17:28 pm »
Has anyone actually successfully upgraded an .eap file from access 97 to access 2007?

I followed the instructions accurately
http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/8.0/projects_and_teams/upsize_to_access_2007.html

The instructions could possibly be improved as follows

6. Type the full path to the Access 2007 .ACCDB file including file name

10. Rename .accdb file to .eap file

Hi Skiwi,

It was my understanding that you could ONLY (at least pre-v9) connect to an ACCDB file as an ODBC (simulated Server) connection.

Try that - at least it will get you going...

Thankyou for that.
This is going to be a problem I can see.
Background:
A number of our EAP files are in access 97 format (due to the unfortunate and perpetuated default of the version of the EAP file that installs be default.)
We have just upgraded to Office 2007, and I do not seem to have the ability to upgrade the EAP files to the intermediate step of Access 2003 any more (to support unicode).
Upgrading to Access 2007 would be fine if, and only if, we can continue to open by clicking on the eap file.

Hi Skiwi,

I use the shortcuts for that...

If you create a shortcut that connects to the 2007, then the "punters" don't see the difference (apart from having to distribute 2 files and the ODBC details).

I upgrade ALL my EAP files to 2000 and then use any version of MSA to access them.
