ActivityPartition / Pool / Lane - instances ?
« on: August 31, 2011, 07:11:29 pm »
Hi All,

For various reasons i need to create "as Instance Element (Object)" instead of "as Simple Link" when i drag and drop an ActivityPartition, Pool or Lane onto a diagram.

EA prompts me on the "Paste Element" dialogue to select "as Simple Link" or "as Instance Element (Object)" however it ignores my selection and always adds the element to the diagram "as Simple Link".

Is there a known work around ?

What tag in a uml profile tells EA to allow creation of the element "as Instance..." ? If i can figure this out ill be able to create a profile for myself that fixes the issue...thoughts?

Thanks,

Jon.

Hi,
I think that logically its not right to create an instance of a partition (as its usually an instance of another element by itself). so maybe thats a reason, EA doesnt let creating an instance in any way..

Well as mentioned there are various reasons why i need to create an instance. Specifically we have a package that contains a library of BPMN Pools (ie org entities/units) and Lanes (roles). We have asked our modellers to pick from this library when creating a new process diagram (which will sit in its own package). This stops the proliferation of misnamed and inappropriate Pools/Lanes (such a library is a common - indeed required as far as i can see - model control mechanism).

The only solution that i can see is that my users add the Pools and Lanes as an instance - they can then add their bpmn elements a child elements of the instance - i can then create reports etc that describe the relationship.

Happy to use any other solution - but haven't come across one yet ! ??

Thanks,

Jon.
