Monitoring usage of EA with fixed licenses
« on: September 07, 2011, 10:23:43 pm »
I need to evaluate whether it pays of to move from fixed to floating licenses. Problem is I'm not sure what the user ratio is, i.e. are the users really casual or do they start and use EA continiously and frequently.

Is it possible (... besides writing emails and walking from office to office) to centraly log/monitor the usage of distributed EA System Engineering installations, while using the fixed license schema?

I looked at this recently, checked the auditing options - but ea just logs changes to elements, not login/out events - so not much help. You could ask your dba to record db level login/outs if using a central db which supports that level of auditing ?

My best guess is that will vary from site to site, and by the style of work performed by your users.

Here, the Business Analysts use EA frequently, but rarely leave it running during the day, so far floating licenses have been effective.

An Enterprise Architect may be more likely to have the tool running all day long.

Similarly, developers may have longer session open times... But someone else will need to comment on that.
