Exporting BPMN 2.0
« on: October 22, 2011, 05:44:20 am »
Hi, I am fairly new to using EA. We are documenting business process flow in BPMN 2.0 notation. I also capture key additional details about tasks and activities in the Notes section, in addition to visually capturing the flow. However when I extract/print diagram to PDF those details are lost. Since all users dont have EA installed on their machine, is there a way to capture notes details as part of the export so information can be easily shared and validated? Please advise.

There are a number of option.
You can
- put the notes on "linked notes" on the diagram and just print the diagram
- Export the model to HTML
- Generate RTF documents based on the model.

I would recommend to use the repository option of EA so all your users can see and use the same model. That is if everybody has access upon the same network/server.
Look for repository within the EA help file for more intel to see if this is what you would like.

The other thing: not every edition of EA has the option for using the repository. See this page for all the details if your edition is capable of using the repository --> http://www.sparxsystems.com/products/ea/index.html#editions

How that? When you print a diagram all visible details should be on the printout. What are you missing?

You probably mean "not all users have EA installed". However, I recommend EALite for that purpose. It's free of cost. Alternatively create a HTML report and publish that on your local server.
