UML Profile and WMF Pictures
« on: February 18, 2009, 08:01:02 pm »
Hi,

I'm trying to create my own WMF pictures and would like to import it as XML (like the SPEM profile provided on this site). What is the procedure to do this?

Also, which WMF editor do you suggest?

Eddie

Hi,

I think what you are after is actually UML Profiles.  Check out http://www.sparxsystems.com/uml_tool_guide/sdk_for_enterprise_architect/introduction_2.html

You can create your own technology (with your own EMF/WMF images) through this process.

As for creating your own EMF/WMF images, Adobe Illustrator is awesome!  There may be something else you can use, but I only ever use adobe.  In terms of creating images, don't use any blends in the colours as EA doesn't seem to handle it too well.

If you need some help, don't hesitate to PM me. :)

Cheers,

Eddie

I am looking to do something similar. I am not looking for anything very extravagant at this point. I am modeling an site map in AE by dropping wireframes (created in Screen Architect) onto a Class diagram. I have 3 users that are entering our web app from 3 login points. All I want to do is drop the 3 user classes onto the diagram and select the (supplied) 'User-Detail' image as the alternate image for the class(es).

However, I would like to create different colors for each user. The easiest way to do this would be to export the existing 'User-Detail' image and then change the (shirt) color and then reimport as new instances of User-Detail (perhaps User-Detail-Red, User-Detail-Green, etc).

What is the best (quickest) way for me to do this without having to spend 4 hours learning the EA UML SDK?

Thanks!!!

Not really the best way to do it, but you could simply create new stereotypes, calling them (Something like) "User-R", "User-G", "User-B".  And then assign a metafile with the appropriate colour to them.  Then when you create the element just give it the stereotype you have created and it will display as such.

This should be the quickest way to do it.   ;)

But remember that you have to distribute these - both the stereotype definitions and the images, as separate components - as reference data. Look up import and export of reference data for more information.
No, you can't have it!
