Assign a (default) diagram to an element
« on: February 16, 2012, 02:28:42 am »
I am using EA v8.0.858 and wonder if there is a way to open a diagram while opening/selecting a use case element? The "Show Composite Diagram" just seem to insert the composite diagram right on top of the current diagram, not openeing the diagram in a new tab.

Unless I am misunderstanding your question, when any element has been made a composite (i.e. has linked diagram), irrespective of whether the spectacles symbol is present on the element or not, double-clicking on the element automatically opens the linked diagram

Cheers

Phil,

It's three chain links...  ;) ('Coz it's a linked diagram...)

But, I will concede the spectacle metaphor works also...

Thanks for your answers! I got what I wanted by:
1. Select element and choose "Add diagram"
2. Make the element Composite
3. Then I could move the diagram where I wanted it to be and insert contents to it.

I found now way of pointing out an existing diagram, so instead I had to create a new diagram and copy & paste from my previous diagram (now obsolete).

And yes, it sure looks like a pair of spectacles  8-)

I think if you move the original diagram under the element and then make the element composite, it will attach to the element correctly.

Paolo, that seem to correct!

1. First move diagram to any element
2. Then make the element Composite (to connect to diagram)

Now, it is possible to move diagram back to another location and still keep the composition link.

Well, mystery solved...

I think qwerty rightly described this as a hack in another thread,  but it does work.
