Passwor/username detected automatically by  OS
« on: February 15, 2012, 05:18:24 am »
Background:
-I'm Using the built in security in EA, and planning to implement a DBMS repository.
-At work everyone one  have a Username/password in order to login to windows.
-we r using windows 7, and EA 9.2

Question:
Is there a way that Instead of everytime a user lunch EA and get asked about his username and password, let EA automatically recognize him by his login and password that he already set up in windows.

Thanks

In the Help:

Projects and Teams > Team Development > Configure User Security > Import User IDs From Active Directory

Is that what you need?

yes , Thanks.

that way I don't have to type the username to add to security so I just look for it in the active directory.

will the user still be asked to enter his password? (or EA does not ask him anymore about his username and password since he's been authenticated by windows when he logged in)

Actually I have tried.

1-I got the User login from our lan/network (active directory...)
2-I sent that user  the .eap file where security was setup
3-when he opened the file the .eap did not recognize him!
4- he was asked to enter his userID and password!

any advice?

one more question:
is there a way to set the security per application instead of .EAP file?

From TFM section Managing Users:

Quote
•      If you select the Accept Windows Authentication checkbox, when a user opens the model Enterprise Architect checks the user's database for their Windows ID and, if it matches, automatically logs the user in without prompting for a password
•      The Accept Windows Authentication checkbox enables the Import button, which you can select to import user IDs from a Windows Active Directory
•      As a security measure, the Accept Windows Authentication checkbox is automatically deselected if the project .eap file is moved to a different location; once the file has been relocated, you can select the checkbox again to apply Windows authentication from the new database

No. I recently asked for such a central user management (see somewhere in the Suggestions board). But most people thougth a windoze group would be more appropriate. So I did not send an official request.

I did what suggested by Geert but at logon EA always require the user password, even if the check box Accept Windows Authentication is checked.
May be because the EA password I have initially associated to the login is not equal to the AD password for the user?

If you have moved your EAP after importing the windoze user the authentication is disabled. You need to re-import them.
