SysML Internal Block Diagram
« on: April 23, 2013, 08:43:58 am »
Hi. I am coming from Rational Rhapsody so I'm trying to get my head around some of the differences between the two tools. I just installed the trial version of EA and i'm trying to create a System Model based of the provided example. I'm looking at the Systems Engineering example model for the Portable Audio Player. In the Internal Block Diagram "ListeningDomain" for the ListeningDomain block, within the Block is an Object instance ":Listener" and three Properties; "listenerClothing", "listeningConditions" and "portableAudioPlayer".

My first question is 1) why aren't these all parts and how were they even created since I can only see "Part" in the SysML Block Internal Toolbox.

I created a SysML model using the SysML 1.3 pattern. If I open the "ListeningDomain" IBD in the Operational Domain Model, I see again a number of Properties in the Block. However, this time when I look at the SysML Block Internal Toolbox, it looks quite different. Instead of a Part at the top of the list, I can see a Property. So my second question is 2) why is the SysML Toolbox menu different between the example Systems Engineering Model and the Systems Engineering Model created using the wizard?

The one differnt I can see is that my new model is using the <<model>> stereotype. But other than that, nothing obvious is jumping out at me.

Thanks all.

Hi. Another question to add... The properties/parts under my Block appear to be named in one of three different ways; :X, /X:X, or x/X:X.

I have reused the existing parts in my model and they all appear as x/X:X or as /X:X. Any new parts (properties) I have added appear as :X. This means, when I drop them onto my IBD, they appear as empty boxes. So my question is 3) What does the /X mean in the name and how is this set?

Thanks.
