Regarding freezing of diagrams
« on: May 22, 2013, 04:51:56 am »
Hi all,
I have been working on EA for 1 month. I'm facing one problem. I have created various diagrams. In those diagrams I have created my own defined stereotype elements. Then I have established a connection(trace) between those elements. There are many such diagrams that have some common elements. So I have pasted them as 'link' rather than pasting as'new'. The problem is that when I make any changes to the current diagram i.e when I establish new links between elements in one diagram, if the same elements are used in other diagrams, a link will appear in those diagrams as well. I do not want to show this link. There is an option to hide this but there are over thousands of links to be created. Doing it one by one will take time.

Is there any way so that I can freeze the previously made diagrams so that these new links created might not appear in those??
(I hope I am clear with the question)

I guess the answer is "No". You might consider to write an add-in which can do the job.

Each time you establish a connection, RMB on the connection and select:
  • Visibility
  • Hide connector in other diagrams
Orthogonality rules
Position and Team disestablished, thanks austerity.
Now itinerant.

Thanx a lot. Yes I have been doing exactly the same RMB and then hiding in other diagrams but there are hundreds of connectors and around 50 such diagrams. Anyways I appreciate the help.

Prateek,

If in fact the elements on the different diagrams are the same, then it should even be preferable to show all links between them.

The fact that you have this problem, on this scale, indicates that you are doing something wrong on a more basic level, and you should rethink your modeling strategy.

Also, have you considered using the Relationship Matrix instead of diagrams ? Sounds like you diagrams are really complicated, so the RM might make the information easier to understand.
