Diagram Styles

Hello,

I would like certain elements, connectors, and diagram types always have certain custom styles for colors, lines, borders, etc. I see a section in the user guide for text and paragraph styles for RTF, but cannot find how to fix styles for diagrams and diagram objects. There appear to be style-related tools on the diagram toolbar, but I don't know how to use it correctly. I create a number of elements, gave them a certain color, and saved that as a new style (assuming that every time I add a new element of the same type to the diagram, it would have the color I chose). Anyway, that didn't work as expected (i.e., new element had old default color).

Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thee are several ways to set a style for a type of diagram, type of element, type of connector, specific element, specific connector and specific instance of an element. In the Help, look for:

• Options dialog (Tools > Options in the menu bar)

• Default appearance

• Format Toolbar

• Patterns

• Set Element Templates Package

There are other methods but they might be too advanced for what you are trying to do at the moment.

Thank you. This was very helpful, as I was able to create diagram templates as per your recommendation, and it works now for new diagrams.

However, if I have a pre-existing diagram (created before I had my my template package), is there a way to auto-update the diagram to reflect the template. I am hoping that there is a way to do that.

Hi,

if you have a rule for your line styles you may write a Script/Addin. With that you can accomplish most tasks.

If that's important for you you will find here someone who will write the script. Just ask.
