Hyperlink to (open) another EA model
« on: May 12, 2014, 10:47:55 am »

Is it possible to hyperlink to another EA model, e.g. in a note?

That means I have to have a file on a share where all model users can see it (not really realistic, and not future proof), and something else to maintain.

Sounds like a feature request to me

thanks

We use the http://sourceforge.net/projects/eaprotocol/ Handler to provide url's to even specific diagrams/packages/elements within another ea model. Despite the need to install this on every client is very helpful in my case.

Thanks for that, a useful reference, but my chances of installing anything on a client are zilch.

I haven't done extensive testing on this, but I think you should be able to embed the shortcut EAP file within your model using the new Repository Based File storage capability in EA 11.

Using EA 11 - Create the shortcut EAP file, then drag the file from your file explorer onto your diagram in EA.  Select "Artifact (Internal)".  Any user running EA 11 should now be able to double-click this artifact to open the model that was referenced by this shortcut.

For more information about this new feature, see "Repository Based File storage" on the following page:

A form of this facility is also available in release 10. See:

http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/10/standard_uml_models/create_artifact_for_external_f.html

For the Release 11 facility, go to the integrated Help and look for File Artifact in the Index. That should get you to a topic called 'Create File Artifacts'.
Best Regards, Roy

Clever - the EA way. In Germany we say that you shoot yourself from behind through the chest into the eye. Why is there no direct way to achieve that? Quite a number of people have asked for it since a long time. Probably the training guys have whispered to make it complicated so they can make money on teaching this clever trick.
