Default Diagram / Model for local user
« on: September 16, 2014, 06:10:35 pm »
We have EA 9.2 Corporate + MySQL database (ODBC).
Setting the Default Diagram
Diagram | Advanced | Make Model Default
makes it default or all users (global).

Is there any way to set the default diagram for each user (local)?

EA is connected (on each machine/computer) to MySQL database
through ODBC with the same settings (also same db user + password).
Should I create different users on database?

I don't know if that had been introduced in 9.2 already, but if so look into View/Model Views.

View/Model Views is already in EA 9.2, but it's not what I'm looking for.
I want EA to load particular diagram (+ go to the appropriate "branch") on startup, but I don't want to change other useres setting.

The help says: (Use in the Corporate, Business and Software Engineering, Systems Engineering and Ultimate editions of Enterprise Architect, if security is enabled).

If Security is enabled, you need to have Manage Diagrams permissions to set the diagram as the Model Default, and setting the diagram as the User Default overrides that, so I expect you would need at least Manage Diagrams permission to set the User Default.

If that doesn't resolve the problem, update the post here and/or contact Sparx Support directly.

Thanks for your comprehensive answer. It's strange, that I have to enable security to "personalize" default diagram on EA startup.
Unfortunately we have security disabled - I'll try to enable security and set appropriate permissions. Hope it doesn't take much time :)

I have been looking into this a bit closer and it seems that to set a diagram as the User Default you need to have security enabled but after that you don't have to have specific access permissions to set the diagram as the default.

Also, to set the diagram as the MODEL default, and if security is enabled, you need to have Manage Project Settings permission, not Manage Diagrams permission. Reading glasses work much better when you wear them.

Is there any way to set the default diagram for each user (local)?
Surprised nobody has mentioned this yet, but search the Help for "Working Sets".

Yes, Working Sets were first introduced around EA 9.0 I think.  Part of the Personal Information window (now called Personal Tasks).

Actually I meant that with my first reply, but I don't use it. So I linked the wrong path :-[
