Formatting entities
« on: November 13, 2009, 11:22:57 am »
I want to format an entity (say a Packaging component) so that it has
  • a dashed or dotted border
  • transparent fill
The formatting brush visible when the object is selected does not seen to offer these options.
No doubt shape scripts might achieve this, yet this functionality seems more appropriate for the UI.

TIA

Formatting options for line/border styles are a bad idea because in most modelling languages the meanings are already defined. At least with shape scripts you are in effect defining your own language that you can associate whatever meaning you like.

As for a transparent fill, I would consider it a fringe case and think the benefit would not justify the development cost that would be associated with making it work.

Well I'd certainly disagree for whiteboard objects.
And when I am developing conceptual models for business eyes I see a strong use case.

Okay, I can see the usefulness for the whiteboard technology.

Having said that, I don't see any sign of wider demand. Maybe you would be better off just doing your own "shapes" technology.
