What is the meaning of a red "A" beside
« on: October 21, 2014, 07:02:29 am »

I have seen some sample use case model and I noticed there is a small read "A" beside the composite sign in the bubble. What does it mean? and How to show it?

You have a linked document inside. Ctrl-Alt-D to see it.

Seriously, this comes up a lot.

It's not a drama, but makes me wonder if we need a sticky set of FAQs

Possibly, but in this case the Help has index entries for the various 'red' objects that appear in EA - the letter A, the triangle, the exclamation mark and the element border. Some questions can be answered using the Help index or search.

 :)

I do agree, but it does seem to be a recurring question.

Maybe I'm suffering from confirmation bias.

A quick search of the last year's posts suggest that the "little red caret" probably turns up more.

And...

Roy's right. If you search for "Red" in the help, you find a whole list of "red things"

The problem, I think, is that when you do a search using the little box at the top right rather than click the search button top left, you end up with whatever time has been set by default. So on mine the "This post was made in the last..." defaults to a week. Which on most week will turn up no results to a search on red. So the newbie then asks what does this red thing mean?

Gary,

Your first reflex should be to search the help inside EA (as in RTFM)
Only if you don't find it there you should consider checking the forum.

And yes, the search box on the top has been an ongoing gotcha for many years now.

Which is exactly what I do.
Other people are a different story.
I am always amazed by the amount of people I come across who never read online help for any product. This means I end up being the go to guy for answers as I am viewed as an 'expert user' because I do read the help and white papers.

In defence of the users...

Sometimes help text is not as obvious, or as complete as one might expect.

Misunderstanding what's on screen, can mean that things aren't found in help.

For example, we had a user in the past asking about the red "caret".

Caret is this symbol: ^

Searching for "red" or "triangle" finds the answer in the help text. Caret, not so much... There's no way to predict that someone would describe a downward pointing triangle, as an upward pointing diacritical, hence questions asked here.

Of course, if EA uses both red triangles and red carets, then I'm the dummy here, but that's a risk I'm prepared to take.
