Document storage in EA
« on: December 09, 2014, 01:23:24 am »
Hello Sparxians!

Daily post:
Is there a good way to store documents in EA?

Context:
EA will be deployed in as a middleman (or middle soft?). I will have information coming up in a BPMN form, then I will work in the middle with requirement and test (V model), and i will deliver this to contractors. But here is the deal, those contractor will answer back with a Word document, so if there a good way to store their document in my model (to have full coverage, run checks, and so on...)
I will have to make a link between those documents and my requirements/tests. And talking about granularity; is it possible to link to a paragraph? or only to the full doc? Is copy paste to Document Artifact the only way?

I am happy to have any piece of advice on "How to"

Regards,

I would put those documents under VC and add a hyperlink to EA.

For each element you can add a linked document. (Ctrl-Alt-D)
This is an internal RTF format document.

The problem here is that any external document must be put under VC in order to make it open to scrutiny. You could also put the the model under VC (which I only recommend under certain conditions). Anyhow the RTF-copy is not that shiny glittering Word thingy it used to be.

Monsieur,
in EA11 you can create "internal artifact" by drag-n-dropping files  directly inside the model. So, file format is not limited to RTF only.

http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/11/standard_uml_models/create_artifact_for_external_f.html

The files are stored in the model, but their content is managed by external associated applications.

Unfortunately, I could'n make the contents of such documents appear in model reports.
