Red triangle on element?
« on: January 29, 2015, 01:52:29 am »
What does this red triangle mean? - and in particular: how do I remove it?

I don't know how I happened to generate this red triangle.

If you happen to know, please let me know how to remove it.

Also in the Edit menu. Sadly, no option there to manage bookmarks in any meaningful way (even Clear All only applies to the current diagram).

I guess model views is the better replacement. But honestly, I use neither.

Ran into this again myself.

The toggle is Shift+Space, not Ctrl+space. Not sure if that has changed from prior releases.  I finally figured out why it keeps appearing seemingly randomly in my models: While I am typing in a linked document, if I am typing a title or using uppercase as emphasis, I would type "HERE IS SOME TEXT", while holding the shift key down while typing the spaces in those words. That toggles, repeatedly the bookmark on the element.  The space would never appear in the text, and I would have to continually correct it, wondering why EA was not honoring the Shift+space sequence. Suddenly, it is all clear.

Since this is a continually recurring question over the years, including by me, I thought I would update the topic.

I think (given your explanation) this is actually a bug, .  The context you are typing in is not one that should trigger [Shift+Space] as a Sparx shortcut.  If you try the same inside a properties dialog, it doesn't trigger.

I'd report it...

As notes by Paolo, most places in EA won't add the bookmark when you're typing. That's because in most places we've prevented it, which is probably why the issue comes up a lot less these days. (When I remember it happening, it was just as part of normal typing. Not all caps)

I am on v14 of EA, so it might be a version thing.

With v14 came the Document pane and Features pane within the main UI. I actually use those more than the properties popup.  Typing anywhere on those panes, whether adding a feature or typing in the "linked document" selection, any Shift+Space toggles the bookmark on the currently selected element.

It's not burdensome, but it lead me back to the old "what is the red triangle?" question. Now that I can correlate an action with the response, the mystery is gone and I won't forget again.  If it's a bug, well it may have been fixed in 15. I'll have to see about getting v15.
