Requirement with pictures?
« on: March 31, 2015, 03:10:23 am »
Hello,

this is my first post here in the forum, and I hope my question is not too trivial.
I want to add a png file to the description of a requirement, as part of that requirement. I am able to drag and drop the png file into the description area (Copy and Paste does not work), but when I close the propterties window, the picture has vanished on re-opening this requirements' property.
Am I doing sth wrong, or are pictures in reqs not allowed?

Thanks for your help!

It's not possible this way. Either you
- include a document with the picture inside (see help Linked Document)
- or you create a boundary, set an alternate image for it an draw a relation to the requirement
- or you use the Files tab in the properties to link to an external file.

Thanks, qwerty, for your quick reply. I used the "Files" tab in the properties window, and I can include the picture file.
However, of course I want to see this picture as part of the requirement in the generated documentation, or at least a hint that the file belongs to the requirement.
I find neither in the generated output doc file nor in the Specification Manager any hint to that file. Maybe I should use one of the other possibilities you mentioned?

Perhaps you can help again.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry, I don't use EA's document generator. Passing over....

N.B.: I wrote my own document generator so there was no problem telling where to find a picture to include.

For the document generator, I wrote an own template. The standard template is not too useful, IMO.

Thanks anyway!

As qwerty says, use a Linked Document, then when you print using RTF templates the linked document will print and so will your image.

This is already enabled in the Standard Template (Model Report in EA v12)

When you create your Linked Document, simply copy / paste your image

If you use Link, the RTF generator will simply print the file path, it will not retrieve the file

Hi philchudley,

thanks for your reply.

However, your description does not do the job completely. For a linked document, the trick is that you have to open the template (I have an own template file), activate the "Show Selections Window" and check the entry "Linked Document" in the corresponding tree position. The Linked Document without the activated checkbox appears in the context menu and opens, but does not show up in the report.

PS Admitted, I learnt only after contacting the Sparx support. Very quick and competent answer.
