Basic functionality
« on: November 30, 2004, 02:44:25 pm »
I'm moving (or was moving?) from Posiedon because of general usage issues and am rather pleased with EA, except for the glaring (to me) usability issues.

1.  Font should be able to be adjusted on multiple objects at once

2. Redo? ie.  Do an operation.  Select another object.  Press F4 to redo it on the new object (handy when you can't see everything to select at once, or on different diagrams).

3. Ability to set stereotype attributes (colour etc).

4. Project view that is able to be synchronised with the working views (one example is the example project - click through the welcome screen and get to a diagram: Where is this diagram?  What attributes/methods/sub objects does this object have?). Very dissapointing to not have this.

5. Not being able to lock a tool.

Cheers

Oh - that's right...

6. Undo that DOESN'T UNDO ANYTHING!!   >:(  Sorry, just think it's really dumb in 2004 where pretty much everything is able to be undone.

Wow - just figured it out showing some one else how bad the undo was...

6.  Undo that can't undo object deletion (or whatever it can't undo at the moment)

7. Undo that is NOT TIED TO CTRL-Z!  >:(  Now that's really dumb.  (Fixable from Keyboard shortcuts ... when I found it)

8. Hey - where is the keyboard shortcuts page?  Options should probably be preferences, and keyboard shortcuts inside.

9. Spending 5 minutes trying to get a handle on a point on a state diagram because I can't set order or selectability on lines (other ones are always in front)

I can answer a couple of these:

Item 3: Menu "Configuration | UML | Stereotypes" allows you to define your own stereotypes and set the default colours.

Item 4: Right-click a diagram object and select "Locate in Project Browser (Alt+G)". For a diagram, select Menu "Diagram | Locate in Browser".

Item 5/6: Undo is something we will be working on in the New Year. It's not as straightforward as you expect because an EA model is not a document, it's a database, so changes are persisted in real-time. At the moment undo only works on changes that are held in memory, i.e. drawing changes and nothing else.

Your other suggestions we will take on board: thanks for taking the time to comment.

3. Cool
4. Pretty good too - although Locate in Project Browser should be on the diagram context menu as well.

5/6. It's a lot better now I've put Ctrl-Z on the undo.  Having persisted undo would be cool, but it's a luxury that I wasn't indicating in this post (however, it is a very good idea, and you gain many points for going into the relatively unchartered regions).

Undo history would be good on this point.  It would be nice to be able to look back in history and selectively undo one particular operation.

Cheers

I guess I'm now at :-/ (Can't find a neutral :-| expression)
