Update Repository
« on: April 25, 2005, 08:27:15 am »
Hi:

I have a simple question about your excelente app.

When update (i mean put all the repository) in a MSSQL database, a warning message say:

Caution:
All data will be erased from the Target Model prior to data transfer. Please ensure you have backed up target if
neccesary.

Ok. When i want to update de repository (with some changes) EA update all repository, so:

Person A, Person B

+. A do some changes and at the same time B do the same.
+. A update the repository and B not. When B update the repository, A lost her changes.

So, the update is not incremental.
A tell B that update the repository, but when B get the repository, lost the actual changes.

Is there in analisys of EA, update of the repository in incremental way?

When we see this simple scenario, have a problem in a group of developers.

Or, worst, EA have that funcionality and we don't see it?

Thanks in advance.
Regards.

Federico.

Hi Federico,

it sounds like you are using the Data Transfer functionality which indeed does just that - moves the whole contents of the repository into another one, overwriting the original contents. What you probably are looking for is a replication - see menu items under Tools > Manage .EAP file.
Also, if all of your users are on a common network, you may want to look into having the users share the same repository, it would make your life likely much easier.

Hope this helps!
Bruno
