Autokeyword Highlighting
« on: December 07, 2005, 07:02:24 am »
One feature I've always wanted to see in EA is auto-keyword highlighting.

During the analysis and design of a system there there's a lot of textual documentation that gets added to model elements that refers to other model elements. However if the name of that element changes it requires someone (me normally) to manually run through everything in the model to make sure that all the references to it get correctly updated.

If EA could be set-up to automatically highlight keywords based on user preferences (keywords, element type etc) and maintain the link even if the name changes (including automatically updating the name in the referenced text) and futher more providing the ability, from a model element, to see what text is referencing it then it would save lots of hassle, reduce the error prone process and provide a more complete solution when defining a system.

Borland CaliberRM has something like this (although it could use some improvement) and people that I've worked with using this tool have found it to be extremely useful.

This would be technically quite challenging given EA's current architecture.   :-X

However, a "Global Search and Replace facility" such Embarcadero ER/Studio's Universal Naming Utilitywould be a good interim step...
